Having set one of these cards up in a Dell Mini 1010 Netbook XP, there are a number of areas to be aware of:-

Installation of the Drivers can be tricky, and we reccomend removing every device entry in device manager containing the text '5530' from the following sub areas:-

Modems

Com Ports

USB Devices

You will find entries for the 5530 card under each of these sub headings, remove each one by right clicking and choosing uninstall.

Download the latest A06 drivers from the Dell Support Page for the Dell 5530

Make sure you have no applications running that may be trying to access the card, both GPS and HSPA wise.

Run the Dell Setup application for the 5530 A06 drivers, you may need to run this a few times until all the 5530 device drivers are install ok in device manager. (Ensure you have none with question marks or exclamation marks on them)

Reboot, and then its time to install Wireless Manager

Remove any old versions of wireless manager that was previously on the machine.

Install Wireless Manager 5, which is badged Sony Ericson, as the card is an Ericson device, the latest Dell Wireless manager will also work

GPS:-

We have found the GPS 1st Lock to be very very slow, and requires unblocked visibility to the sky with the screen open. the GPS certianly is no where near as senstitive as a Tom Tom for example.

With the GPS tab in Wireless manager 5, you should see the NMEA data, coming from Com 6, point any applications (Google Earth for example) to this com port.

DATA:-

The card is unlocked to any network, and within Wireless manager it will detect the Sim card (Located under the battery) and the connection profile for that providor.

However we have experienced that although a contract Sim will work fine, many PAYG Sim cards will not connect using the 5530 even with the correct connection settings.

For the O2 Pay as you go settings:-

Access Point Name = payandgo.o2.co.uk

Username = payandgo

Password = password
